A standard one-hour driving lesson with Drive Smart costs $75. A one-hour pre-mock test lesson, which includes a written report on what to fix before test day, costs $80. Car hire for your practical test is $60 an hour. There are no contracts and no packages you have to buy up front.

Ask about our rate for multiple lessons when you get in touch. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice; late cancellations and no-shows may be charged the full lesson fee.

Learner to Restricted Licence Lessons
$75 / lesson · 1 hour
Restricted licence lessons take you from a learner licence to passing the practical restricted test. Drive Smart works on the observation and gap selection that testing officers mark hardest, then runs a full mock test so you find out whether you are ready before you pay for the real one.
Restricted to Full Licence Lessons
$75 / lesson · 1 hour
Full licence lessons prepare restricted drivers for the practical full licence test. The full test is shorter than the restricted one but marked harder on hazard detection, so lessons concentrate on how early you read a hazard and whether your speed suits the conditions.
Mock Driving Test
$80 / mock test · 1 hour
A mock driving test is a full run-through of your practical test, marked the way a testing officer marks it, followed by a written report listing every fault and what to do about it. Drive Smart charges $80 for a one-hour mock test. It is the most reliable way to find out whether you are ready to book the real thing.
Overseas Licence Conversion Lessons

Overseas licence conversion lessons help experienced drivers from other countries pass the New Zealand practical test. For most people the problem is New Zealand's give-way rules and the amount of observation a testing officer expects to see, not car control.
Driving Lessons for Nervous Drivers

Drive Smart teaches a lot of anxious learners, including adults who have put off driving for years. Lessons start on quiet residential streets in Papakura and move at whatever pace suits you, in a dual-control automatic so the instructor can step in. A standard lesson is $75.
Car Hire for Your Driving Test
$60 / hour · Warm-up drive
Car hire for a driving test gives you a vehicle that meets the testing agency's requirements when you do not have one of your own. Drive Smart hires out the same dual-control automatic hybrid used in lessons for $60 an hour, so the car is already familiar on test day.
