Drive Smart Driving School

Mock Driving Test

A mock driving test is a full run-through of your practical test, marked the way a testing officer marks it, followed by a written report listing every fault and what to do about it. Drive Smart charges $80 for a one-hour mock test. It is the most reliable way to find out whether you are ready to book the real thing.

What you'll be able to do

  • A clear answer on whether you are ready to book your test
  • A written report listing every fault, ranked by what matters most
  • Practice at driving under assessment, which is what catches most people out
  • A specific list of what to work on if you are not ready yet

How the lessons work

  1. 1

Drive it like the real thing

You drive for the full hour with no coaching and no prompts. That silence is deliberate. Being marked without help is the part learners have never practised, and it is why people who drive well in lessons still fail on the day.

  2. 2

Marked as a testing officer marks it

Faults are recorded against the same criteria used in the practical test, so the result means something rather than being a general opinion on your driving.

  3. 3

    Written report

You get your faults in writing, not just a conversation you half remember. Students tell us the notes are the useful part, because you can work off them between lessons.

  4. 4

    A straight answer

We tell you whether to book. If you are not ready we say so and explain what is missing. Sitting the test too early just means paying the fee twice.

Common questions

How much is a mock driving test?

A one-hour mock test is $80, which includes the written report. A standard lesson is $75.

Should I do a mock test before my restricted or full licence test?

It is worth it if you have never been assessed before, or if you have failed once already and are not sure why. The report tells you what a testing officer would mark you on, which is usually not what learners expect.

Do you use the actual test route?

No. Official test routes are not published, and any school claiming to teach one is guessing. What we do is practise on the kinds of roads around your test centre, so the driving environment is familiar even though the exact route will not be.

What happens if I fail the mock test?

Nothing except that you have found out cheaply. You get the report, we work through the faults in your next lessons, and you sit the real test when you are actually ready.

★★★★★
I met Shaila for a mock test when I was appearing for the restricted driving license test (again). Of course, she helped me with my driving, some easy tricks that I still use and boosted my confidence like no one before had. She went out of her way to meet me on a public holiday because she had already committed to me, told me how I had a mindset issue than a skillset one plus kept emphasising how she would be there for me for all the doubts, fears and feelings that I could ask and discuss even after the mock and the real test were over. It is rare to find gem people like her in this transactional and money-driven world. Kudos to her for the wonderful job she is doing as both a driving instructor and a human.
